Non-Exempt Profile The person who fills this position should be a person of Christian character who demonstrates the fruit of faithful discipleship in all aspects of her/his life.
This person should exercise a positive attitude and a spirit of charity in her/his relationships.
The person should be self-motivated and work well in a team environment.
Summary of Position The Director of Youth Ministry is the advocate for youth (6th-12th grades) and their families.
The Director of Youth will work with the Pastor, Director of Children's Ministry, and volunteer youth leaders to engage the youth in Sunday worship, Mid-Week Connect, education, and fellowship gatherings in the life and ministry of the church.
Regular Duties 1.
Provide oversight of the total youth ministry and coordinate youth ministry with the life of the church.
2.
Be present at the church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
3.
Make personal contacts with all youth who are members of the church, encouraging attendance and spiritual growth.
Make follow -up contacts with youth who attend for the first time and other prospective youth.
4.
Attend school and community activities in which church youth are involved.
5.
Recruit, equip, support, and supervise volunteer adults to lead youth ministries and activities including teaching Sunday school for youth, Midweek classes, and an annual confirmation class.
This includes providing opportunities for teacher training and selecting and organizing curriculum.
6.
Attend and provide leadership at one youth church camp each summer.
7.
To participate in worship and other leadership roles within the congregation as assigned by the pastor.
8.
Understand and follow the Safe Sanctuary Policy.
Insure that volunteer leaders understand and comply with the church's Safety Policy and the Safe Sanctuary Policy.
Occasional Duties Special events may require extra hours of coordination.
The Director of Youth should consider these requirements in planning her/his work week.
This is a salaried position, which means that the requirements of the job take precedence over the number of hours worked.
If the Director of Youth consistently works over 10 hours per week, she/he should consult with the Pastor about the duties involved.
Education and Skills Preferred 1.
Upper class student, if not college graduate, with emphasis in religious studies or related field.
2.
Experience developing and implementing programs for youth.
3.
Demonstrated skills in the area of administration - manage and direct youth budget, maintain best practices in risk management, cultivate fruitful ministry volunteers, and delegate tasks effectively.
4.
A vision for growing programs which support the growth of our church.
5.
Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
6.
Proficient in using computers, technology, and social media.
Accountability Immediate supervisor is the Pastor.
Accountable to the CUMC Board of Stewards.
